Legally sound meteorological analysis of weather events

The Expertise is written by qualified meteorologists. It gives a summary of the regional weather situation and describes in detail the weather conditions at the loss location for the requested time period.

The Expertise considers meteorological, physical and geographical factors and coherences. Depending on the loss type for the requested location, it analyses meteorological parameters such as wind speed, thunderstorm activity, precipitation or temperature. It is available for weather damages in Germany and Austria and is based, among other things, on AK-BLUES’ data (Arbeitskreis Blitz- und Überspannungsschäden des Gesamtverbundes der Deutschen Versicherungsgesellschaft e.V.). Expertises to direct lightning and overvoltage damage are supplemented by a lightning map and spreadsheet with exact time, intensity, coordinates and distance data to the lightning discharge at the loss location.

EWC uses the following data

• Data from more than 1,000 national weather stations in Germany
• For the analysis, the data of weather stations representative for the loss location is used
• Data of LINET, the lightning detection system of nowcast GmbH
• Radar measurement
• Database of extreme weather events
• Geocoding of the loss location accurate to the house number
• Additional consideration of local, geographical, hydrological and grid-connected factors
